SOCIAL MEDIA IS NOT EVIL (Part 3)

Another awesome thing about social media and the church is that you are able to communicate to a mass audience in real time.  Years ago, when there was a prayer request or a need, you would have to call a long list of people but not anymore.  Now, with just a push of a few buttons we are able to send a mass text message, email, Facebook or Twitter update.

I was speaking with a friend around Thanksgiving  about this very topic, and I made the statement that many people who have been in the faith for years are having a hard time embracing social media and technology. I don’t know if it is because people are afraid of technology, thinking that it's evil, or if it’s just “something else” for them to have to learn and embrace so they are choosing not to embrace it.  Either way, I am reminded of the Apostle Paul when he said to win the Jews (people). He became a Jew (like them) to win them. Paul accepted the fact that people were at different places in their lives and that he had to embrace and relate to the people in the culture of the day, without compromising the mission and the message of Scripture.

My Thot for today is: we must continue to embrace technology from the vantage point that God has given us tools, such as the Internet, Email, Text messaging, Smartphones and other tech to be able to communicate in a forever changing culture. Today, be like the Apostle Paul and use the medium of social media and other resources available to you to speak to a generation of people who desperately need the message of hope only found in Jesus in a time of great unrest.
