One of the coolest aspects of social media is that you can minister to people you don’t even know that well, or at all, around the world. A few years ago, I was doing some Facebook chatting with a fellow Facebook gamer for about the 3rd time. I had never met him in person. As we got into more than surface conversation, he began to open up and tell me about his marital issues. I listened and just mentioned the movie Fireproof. He went out and rented the movie and God used the movie to change his marriage around. If people tell you that God does not use things like social media to minister to the needs of the hurting people in this world, then they are living in an intellectual-free zone. In other words, they are Airheads!
The Apostle Paul used the medium of the day - debate, argument, and conversation to express to the men of Athens the Lord Jesus Christ. Paul, knowing that they were well educated and would understand when he used the lingo (the media of the day) presented the message, the story of Jesus as Savior, to a people who worshiped many false gods. They may not have believed Paul, but nevertheless he used the speech and media of the day to present the case for Christ.
My Thot for today is: we should not give up on using social media, but learn to embrace it and use it. It is not the same language that Paul used or that your parents used, but it is the language of our culture. Let’s use the tools that we have been given without compromising the message of Scripture.
