I remember hearing news, a few years ago, about Starbucks offering a 31oz. cup of coffee. Wow, what a huge cup of coffee. Think about it! It’s the same size as a 31oz. Big Gulp from 7-Eleven convenience stores.
In 1 Samuel 17, David was small in stature compared to Goliath. Goliath was a giant compared to him and even the men of Israel. Many sermons, illustrations, books, and other Christian paraphernalia have come from this story - some great and some not so great. With the story as my context, I realize that the story is not just about our problems or about us being like David and Goliath. Many of us, including myself, have been guilty of applying this passage of scripture for our own muse and situations. In reality, the whole 17th chapter in 1 Samuel is about God's faithfulness to people who put their complete trust in Him. It’s not just about the stones, the sling, nor the opponent(s) even though many have focused solely on these aspects. We must not ignore the fact that God is wanting to be our ALL in ALL, our source to go to for ALL of life’s issues, problems, and adventures.
My Thot: Bigger is not always better, but neither is smaller. And it is not in the container; it’s in the substance inside the container. In other words, God is not into sizes, but wants you to completely trust Him to fill you and to be your everything. He is the only source for this life that you need.
