10 HOLIDAY EATING TIPS

Whether you are celebrating the holidays or just going out to eat with friends or family, I hope these 10 tips I use when eating during the holidays or anytime of the year will help you, too.

TIPS
1. Make the holiday, or event, ONE meal not a week or more of eating leftovers.

2. When eating at family or friends’ homes, take no leftovers. You're not going to offend them. You must realize your health is more important than that piece of pumpkin pie.

3. If you are cooking the meal, give ALL leftovers away to guests. This is just the opposite of the above tip. I give all my holiday leftovers away. I don’t want that yummy good food to get me off track by eating it for more than one meal.

4. Allow yourself 500 - 1,500 extra calories for the day ONLY. There is no shame in allowing extra calories for this event or holiday meal, as long as you plan ahead. As soon as your next meal or snack time comes around, make better choices and stay on track.

5. Don’t graze after the meal. Stay away from the food. “Put the cookie down!” - Arnold Schwarzenegger

6. Drink at least 2 glasses of water before the meal.

7. If going to a restaurant, try to plan ahead. Look for the menu online. Often restaurants have their menu and nutrition information listed on the their website.

8. If you are at a restaurant with leftovers that will cause problems tomorrow, take no leftovers. Kids will not starve in Japan. ☺

9. Sit looking away from the food if it’s in the other room. This also goes for buffets.

10. Relax, enjoy the day…Remember: Food is just fuel for the body.

My Thot: think ahead and don't let the holidays, family events, or parties ruin your nutrition. Remember: you are in charge of your own nutrition. Fight for your goals. If they are important to you, you'll do whatever it takes to achieve them. Leave a comment and don’t forget to SUBSCRIBE for blog updates in your inbox.
